I like the new image review features. It may help some folks with an organizing or recall issue. It’s a very useful feature. Unfortunately, it seems to blow up the disk usage of the original image file.
I used it for the first time today to create a graphically refined document. It’s an interesting tool and I’m sure most people will dig it. But it has a steep learning curve with a lot of options.
You can also run clones of the smart previews if you want the originals, or you can disable the smart previews and just see the preview of the UNRI if you want to stick to the RAW colorimetry. The RAW file is exposed just as simply as before – though it’s not RAW anymore.
Photo 11 for Adobe Lightroom 5.2 is an update to the “Photoshop Lightroom Tools” plug-in. Those tools include selective focus adjustments (4 new tools), histogram enhancements (6 new tools), Highlight tint adjustments (4 new tools), color gradient adjustments (8 new tools), and channel cross-process adjustments (3 new tools)…. The new cross-process tools include Offset, Levels, Curves, and even specific adjustments for Vivid, Portrait, Black and White, Monochrome, and Grunge visual styles. Without these adjustments, the effects are just added onto existing adjustments. Nice! Problem – Indirectly, Photoshop’s “Indirect” method is causing the following issues when Photoshop is attempting to load an image that does not have any direct graphics.
