There are various network-related tools on the market that can help you with understanding how network protocols interact with each other in order to achieve communication between network devices.
NetMate is a simple utility that does not need to be installed on the system as it works just by launching the executable file in the archive.
No configuration settings
Its purpose is to display network protocol headers in 32-bit aligned fields, as available in the RFC (Request for Comments) document from the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF).
There are no settings to tinker with but this does not mean that it is for just about anybody because pretty good knowledge about network protocols is required to reveal its true potential.
Dependencies
Since it is a GTK-based application it requires GTK+ to be installed on the system. Also, it relies on WinPcap libraries to load and extract the necessary information from the network dumps.
Working with the program
As far as support for input files goes, NetMate works with PCAP(NG) format, which is easily created by applications like the Wireshark or other similar programs.
Once the network dump is loaded, details relating to the communication are displayed, such as source and destination ports and addresses or packet flags. In the lower part of the panel it displays the network protocol headers.
The list of network protocols supported includes Ethernet, SLL, ARP, ICMP, ICMPv6, IPv4, IPv6, TCP and UDP.
Conclusion
NetMate is not a complicated tool, but it is aimed at a specific category of users that knows a few things about network communications and what the entire process entails.
It is a good utility for checking how protocols work and there are tooltips offering details for the information listed. However, plenty of options that could make learning a lot easier are missing.

What’s New in the Planets?

Gravitation Simulator

Worlds was an interactive astronomy simulation for kids ages 3 to 7.
It is a one-year, 3D virtual world where you could move planets around the sky and calculate their trajectories.

Each planet had a 4-dimensional position (longitude, latitude, elevation, radial distance).

The worlds can be played by themselves or in combination with other worlds to create stories.
There are a lot of possibilities to create stories.
The planets can collide and other things can happen.
This means that Worlds has a lot of story building features.

This code was originally written in Turbo Pascal, and ported to Free Pascal.
And it runs on Windows, Linux and MacOSX.
All those features are still available in Worlds, as most of the other features have not changed.
There are several platforms where Worlds can be run, and there are several other platforms where Worlds could be run.
There are the worlds you already know about: Windows, Linux, MacOSX.
You can run Worlds on the solar system, to view the solar system from a planet, a satellite, or a spacecraft.
The solar system is freely selectable in which planet you want to be.
You can add worlds to this solar system, or create new ones.

I have not ported Worlds to Linux.
All planets are Linux compatible, so it should be no problem, but I do not have a Windows partition.
You can add your own Linux universe to your worlds list.
The worlds will be visible, and you can change the background and other options.

GJ Equation:

There is a GJ equation.
It is an approximation of the equations of motion of a sun-planet-planet system, where all three planets are in the same orbit around the Sun.

For small planets, the GJ equation is suitable.
For large planets it is not.
The GJ equation might get you into trouble if you have a larger planet, that is closer to the sun than the other planet(s).
In that case, the planet moves faster than the other two planets, and gets closer to the sun at the same time, and this might get you into trouble.

It works, but it’s not perfect.
There are two parameters for the GJ equation:
� the coefficient of the 1/r² term (r is the radial distance between sun and planet)
� the coefficient of the 1/r term (r is the radial distance between planet and planet)

Changing the values of these parameters might fix it.
